Handelsbanken has been awarded “Bank of the Year 2023” in Sweden by the Financial Times’ magazine The Banker. Handelsbanken was recognised for both its ambitious sustainability work and its stable profitability.
The Banker is part of the international Financial Times Group. One of the most prestigious accolades in financial services, its annual awards are judged by an independent panel of experts and examine financial services institutions across the globe. Banks in over 120 countries are considered for Bank of the Year, with one from each nation awarded the top slot. They are assessed on both continuous performance and their strategic initiatives.
The jury’s summary concluded: “While most banks have committed to be net zero by 2050, Handelsbanken has set an earlier target of 2040 and announced its first targets for reducing GHG emissions in its real estate financing portfolio. The Banker also highlighted the online ‘Energikollen’ tool in its assessment. This service helps mortgage customers with advice on energy-saving measures, which it is possible to finance via a green loan.
